To apply online for Driving License, you should meet the following criteria:
1. Resident of Great Britain
2. Meet the Eligibility Requirement
3. Meet the Eyesight Requirement
4. Not be forbidden from driving for any reason
5. Ability to pay £50.00 by MasterCard, Visa, Electron or Delta debit or credit card
6. Feature a legal UK passport or another identity proof
7. Produce a record of your residence (where you resided) for the last three years.

The minimum age to get a provisional license for car drivers and all motorcycle drivers is 17. You can apply for the driving license three months prior to you turning 17. However, you will have to wait to take the theory test until you turn 17 years of age.

How much does it cost to get a driving license?

The driving license fees differ according to the kind of driving license which the person is applying for. Given below are the details of the different charges for getting a driving license in the UK:

  • The simplest category of driving license is the first provisional driving license which permits driving a moped, motorcycle or car which is £50.00.
  • The first full Great Britain driving license which can be obtained in exchange for a £European Community/European Economic Area (EC/EEA) or any other license of foreign origin which includes the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands is also £50.00
  • Replacement of a driving license which has been defaced, destroyed, stolen or lost costs £20.00.

  • Change of name and/or address*
  • Renewal of driving license for people over 70 years of age
  • Renewal of driving license due to medical reasons
  • Full Northern Ireland driving license
  • Full valid European Commission/European Economic Area license which includes those of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man if there was a Great Britain license already held.
  • Northern Ireland with Great Britain test pass

*You must produce original documents or a fee of £20.00 will be charged

  • Provide address and address proof of your residence for the past three years.

You will be required to read a number plate on a stationary vehicle at a distance of 20.5 meters; and for new style number plates, the distance is 20m.

What are the Driving eye sight requirements to get a license in UK?

To apply for a Driving License in the United Kingdom, you must be a 'Normal Resident' in UK for a minimum of 185 days or more.

Applicants who are non-citizens of UK or residents of European Union or European Economic Area state (EU/EEA) will not be regarded as 'normally resident' for the application of a driving license if they:
1. Do not have permission to stay in UK
2. Are temporary residents of UK without leave to stay either while expecting a decision on an application to remain in the UK, or accepting a decision rejecting this application.
