Overview of hazard perception Test
In UK it is mandatory for all applicants to pass the theory test before applying for driving practical test. The theory test conducted by Driving Standards Agency (DSA) basically consists of two parts, the multiple choice type and hazard perception test. The Hazard Perception test, introduced towards the end of 2002, is a computer based test featuring a series of moving traffic clips that contains one or more developing hazards. The test generally begins with a short video tutorial that clearly explains you how the hazard perception test will work and what you are required to do.
How will the hazard perception test work?
The candidate must pass the hazard perception as well as the question based part of the theory test to succeed the entire theory part and become eligible to apply for practical test. If you are not sure how the hazard perception test will work, then refer the official DSA website for complete details on test preparation skills.
The test is used to measure the ability to assess the traffic situations and make safe and sound driving decisions. There will be 14 different moving scenes that are displayed as series of clips and you are required to respond to each scene by clicking the mouse. To attain maximum score on each hazard you are supposed to react to the developing hazard during the early part of its development.
The test score depends on how soon you the hazard is spotted - the longer the applicants take, the fewer points they score. A maximum of 5 points will be awarded for each real hazard giving a total highest score of 75 points. To pass this section the applicants are supposed to get minimum 44 points.
